studied acupuncture in Chicago, Illinois, from Dr. Ineon Moon. In early 1980, Richard moved to Taipei, Taiwan, to do advanced studies in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) under Dr. Tsao Cheng Chang. He studied with Dr. Tsao from 1980-1982. His internship in acupuncture was done at Tri-Service Military Hospital in Taipei.

While in Taipei, Taiwan (1980-1982), Richard continued his studies of the Chinese internal martial arts with Grand Master Lu Hung Bin. From Grand Master Lu he learned Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan), Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan, sword, broad sword, staff, deer horn knives, qi gong, tui shou (pushing hands), qin na and Taoist meditation.

In 1981, Richard married Iva Lim who was also studying from Dr. Tsao Cheng Chang and Grand Master Lu Hung Bin. In late 1982, they moved to the United States. In 1985, they settled in Dallas, Texas, and in 1986, they founded the Acupuncture and Aesthetics Center, now the Integrated Center for Oriental Medicine, where they continue to practice traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

They were fortunate to have Grand Master Lu come to the United States and live with them for extended stays from 1985 to 1988, and continue their learning experience with him. Master Lu passed away in Taipei in 1990 at the age of 82. Both Richard and Iva have been adopted into the family as "inner door students", to carry on the teachings and traditions of the Lu system of traditional Chinese internal martial arts. During his extended stays in the United States, Richard and Iva learned a tremendous amount about the intricacies and health benefits of the internal martial arts, especially as how it applies to internal and pain problems. While Grand Master Lu was living with them they founded the Tai Chi Center for the teaching of the internal martial arts as a way to superior health.

In addition to studying from Huo Chi Kwang and Grand Master Lu Hung Bin, Richard has studied Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) briefly from Madame Wang Ju Rong and Ms. Lin Que Ping-former female Taiji Quan champion from China.

Richard is licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners to practice acupuncture. He has been practicing acupuncture in Texas since 1986. He is a Fellow, faculty member, member of the Education Committee and co-chair of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Committee of the American Academy of Pain Management. He lectures at the Academy on the health benefits of qi gong and Taiji Quan for pain management. He is a member of the American Association of Oriental Medicine and the Texas Acupuncture Association. He is a co-recipient of the 2004 "Janet Travell Clinical Pain Management Award" given by the American Academy of Pain Management for excellence in clinical pain management.

Richard has received extensive training in the treatment of addictions. His own uniquely developed protocol pulls together what works and eliminates what does not work, or what the patient finds difficult to accomplish. His stop smoking program has helped countless individuals give up and permanently quit smoking.

Richard and Iva have co-authored numerous magazine and newspaper articles on traditional Chinese medicine and internal martial arts. Their article on "Tai Chi Chuan for Pain Management" was selected as a chapter in the 2001 edition of "Pain Management-A Practical Guide for Clinicians" by CRS Press. Richard judges Chinese martial arts at local, state and national Chinese martial arts competitions. He incorporates concepts of TCM into all his martial arts classes. He specializes in Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) and qi gong for pain management. In traditional Chinese medicine he specializes in pain management, allergy desensitization, male health care problems (impotence and prostatitis), addictions (alcoholism, smoking, and drug addictions), hypertension, stress management, and joint related problems.

His training in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Korean hand therapy (KHT), Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET), auricular acupuncture, Richard Tan's Technique, Pranic Healing, Zhu's scalp acupuncture, qi gong and his own uniquely developed protocols are used in his practice daily.

state level with the Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (TAAOM) and at the national level with the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM).

Jeremy's interest in Oriental medicine began while living in Cuenca, Ecuador, where he studied Spanish and environmental biology at the Universidad del Azuay.  During his two-year stay, he began learning the basic principles that form the foundation of Oriental philosophy and medicine from a local acupuncturist until he returned to the United States.  Jeremy then finished earning his bachelor's degrees in Spanish and biology at Luther College in Decorah, IA, and then moved to Houston to study at ACAOM.

Besides using acupuncture and individualized Chinese herbal formulas, Jeremy specializes in dietary therapy (both Western and Eastern approaches) and in sound/color/movement therapy (as taught by Tama-Do). He is a certified NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Technique) practitioner and also utilizes NET (Neuro-Emotional Technique) to treat imbalances caused by emotional blockages.
Jeremy received his Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree from the prestigious American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Houston, TX, where he trained under acupuncturists, herbalists, and Western medical doctors from China.  This unique academic setting gave him the knowledge and experience to understand diseases from both a Western biomedical approach and from an Oriental medicine standpoint, thus allowing him to work in conjunction with conventional medical doctors to achieve the highest level of healing in patients.  He is currently licensed to practice acupuncture and Oriental medicine in the state of Texas (license AC01031) and is a diplomat of Oriental medicine for the National Council of Credentialing for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). He is an active member at the
